06.2 Warehouse tables

A warehouse table is Analytics's own copy of one of your tables. Every cube built on it reads the copy, so three cubes on one table cost no more than one.

How a table gets in

You don’t add tables here directly. A table is copied in the first time a cube uses it: when building a cube, you add the table on its canvas and choose how it loads (see 06.3).

The Tables tab

Column Shows
Table, From The copy, and where it’s copied from
Source rows / Copy rows Rows at the source and in the copy (✓ when they match). Count exactly counts the source precisely. It can take minutes and adds load to your database.
Freshness How old the copy is: ○ fresh, ● due, ◐ copying now, ▲ never copied
Loads How it’s reloaded
Cubes Which cubes use it

How fresh is fresh enough?

Click the freshness tolerance to choose how old the copy may get: Always, 5 min, 15 min, 1 hour (default), 6 hours, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or Only when I ask.

This is not a schedule. It means: when a cube is built, reload the copy first if it’s older than this. To reload on a timetable, create a job, see 07.1.

How it reloads

Click the load mode or Edit:

Mode Use when
Replace every time The table is small enough to copy whole each time
Only new and changed rows It’s large and has a key plus a column that shows change (e.g. updated at)
Re-load the last few days Recent rows still change but older ones don’t, e.g. orders that can change for a week

For Only new and changed rows and Re-load the last few days, the choice is kept on the table’s job, Move: table name in Jobs (07.1). Give that job a schedule to reload on a timetable. Load now does the same as a scheduled load.

Buttons on each table

  • Load now: copy it again now.
  • Runs: past loads, with Stop, Roll back and Log. If a load stopped midway, choose Roll back or Keep what it wrote.
  • Empty: delete the copied rows (the next load brings them back). Rebuild its cubes afterwards.
  • Remove: delete the copy. Your source table isn’t touched. It’s refused while cubes use it.
