User guide

Short, numbered guides for everyone who uses Analytics. No technical knowledge needed. Each page covers one task.

Have a question? Start with How do I…?: short answers to the questions people actually ask, such as how do I refer to the current row or how do I report across a many-to-many relationship, each linked to the full page.

How Analytics fits together

Step What it is Guide
1. Connection Where the data lives 02.1 Connect a database
2. Dataset Which rows, joined and filtered 03.1 What a dataset is
3. Report How they’re grouped, totalled and drawn 04.1 What a report is
4. Dashboard Several reports on one page, with shared filters 05.1 What a dashboard is

Build in that order. A dashboard needs reports (widgets), a report needs a dataset, and a dataset needs a connection or an imported file.

For large data, the warehouse and cubes (section 06) sit between your database and your datasets and make everything faster.
